Owned by the Davis family and with the project verified and administered by the Gum Tree Lane Foundation, Fairyland is a 330-acre ecological ‘ark’ containing wetlands, forests and rookeries. It is home to an abundance of near-extinct fauna, such as swift parrots, forty-spotted pardalotes, Australasian bitterns, mutton birds, eastern quolls, and little penguins, better known as fairy penguins. The latter nest from late spring to summer each year in Fairyland’s rookeries that are hidden within the sand dunes and salt bushes.
